The 15-year-old racing driver from Toftlund achieved his best result to date during the Night Race at Padborg Park.
The South Jutlander came to his home track well prepared and showed from the start that his speed was good and his fighting spirit high. With the third fastest lap time in qualifying, it was clear that Nissen was aiming for the top.
It wasn’t necessary to wait any longer than Friday afternoon to see the potential being realised. With great manoeuvres, Casper Nissen managed to take the lead in the 20-car field, and although the two championship contenders behind him made several attempts to wrest first place from him, he defended his position and took his first race victory.
Saturday’s first race was a bigger challenge for Nissen, who after his first place had to start from eighth place. From there, he managed to fight his way to fourth place and secure good points for the rookie championship, which he already leads.
However, the final heat of the weekend didn’t go as hoped. The speed was good, but a controversy with a competitor meant that Casper Nissen ended the race in the sand outside the track.
“I had really good speed in the car, but there was someone who didn’t agree with me on how to race, so he ended up pushing me off the track. I think that’s a boring way to behave, but it comes with the territory when you approach the top of the field,” says Casper Nissen, who is delighted with his first victory:
“It was awesome! I had a really good weekend where the speed was there and everything just worked. I’ve spent a lot of time preparing physically and mentally, and STEP Motorsport was ready with a car that just wanted to go forward. I feel really good and now I’m just looking forward to finishing the season strong at Jyllandsringen in a couple of weeks,” says Casper Nissen, who leads the Danish rookie championship and is in the fight for third place in the Danish championship.
The Danish Championship final will be held at FDM Jyllandsringen on 27-28 September.
