The South Jutland racing driver got more learning than results when he and STEP Motorsport competed in the third round of the Nordic Championship in Nordic 4 this weekend.
After the opening practice session, the 14-year-old driver struggled to find the last tenths in qualifying. Although he was just four tenths of a second behind the fastest driver, his efforts were only good enough for a sixth place start in the first of the weekend’s three races. Here, Casper managed to move up a single place as he chased his team-mate towards the finish line.
On Sunday morning, Casper Nissen started from fourth place and made a good start to move up to second place. A safety car period neutralised the race and when the race was restarted, Casper was not ready.
– “In Sweden they have slightly different safety car procedures and I didn’t pay enough attention to that, so I lost quite a few positions,” says Casper Nissen, who despite the error brought home another fifth place.
The two fifth places meant that Casper could start the final heat from fifth place. The young driver was ready to work his way forwards, but two safety car periods meant that the race never really got going and instead the South Jutlander lost two places.
– “It’s been a difficult weekend, where I didn’t quite find the pace, and then I was unlucky over several laps. These kinds of races happen, but it’s frustrating when you’re in that situation. I’m really looking forward to getting back in the car and continuing to work with STEP Motorsport when we run the next race at Jyllandsringen,” says Casper Nissen, who leads the rookie drivers in the Danish championship.
The next race for Casper Nissen will be Grand Prix Denmark at FDM Jyllandsringen on 22-24 August.
